I’m a Christ follower. I have had an amazing journey in my relationship with Him and love to share so feel free to ask at any time!

Grandparents: Memories that will last a lifetime…even when you are gone

Through their presence or their absence, our grandparents leave their permanent mark on each one of us. They are a family’s greatest treasure, the founders of a loving legacy, the greatest storytellers, and the keepers of traditions lingering on in cherished memory. Grandparents are the family’s strong foundation. Their very special love sets them apart. Through happiness and sorrow, through their special love and caring, grandparents keep a family close.
Both my Granny and Gramps have impacted my life in numerous ways. I love spending time with them, and fortunately with them living so close, I am able to see them often.
I love spending time with my grandparents because no matter what we do, they know how to make it fun. Somehow we always end up laughing at the most ridiculous things that would only make sense to us. We like to watch old movies and enjoy each other’s company. I love listening to stories about their lives and the crazy things they did at my age. At the same time I really like being able to spend time with each of them separately. My Granny and I love to go shopping and talk about what’s on our minds. We always have fun and benefit from a day out of the house together. My Gramps and I have had some pretty fun times together too. One of my favorite memories with him is going fishing when I was younger. It made me feel special when he would take me fishing at his favorite spot. These days we don’t go fishing anymore, but we still have our special time together. I’ve found  I have learned more about both my grandparents just by spending precious time with them.
My grandparents have had such a major impact on my life that I will never forget. They have always been there for me no matter what through the good and bad times. They have always supported me in everything I do whether they were there to see it happen or not. They always made it known how proud of me they are and have loved me unconditionally. Their encouragement toward me to pursue my dreams no matter how unrealistic they are has helped me get to where I am today. Perhaps the chief way they have impacted my life has been through their spiritual life. They are both strong Christians, and have set the example for how my personal relationship with Christ should be. Their faith in God and his promises is so deep. I don’t think there is a time when we get together that they don’t remind me of God’s love for me.
Now that I am older and I am preparing to head to college, I have come to realize how important my relationship with my grandparents is. I know that I’ll miss them, but I am glad  I have been able to create so many happy memories with them over the last 18 years.
So, Granny and Gramps thank you for being a part of my life. I love you both very much.

My Love is Gone

So I wrote this sonnet in 7th grade for my creative writing class. I don’t even know how it turned out to be like this except for the fact that I had the Iraq war on my mind a lot at that time. This still happens to be one of my favorite poems I have every written in my life. Thanks for reading 🙂
The meadow daisies bending in the breeze
Remind me of a day just passed.
I strolled along my path with ease
With him right by my side, a love to last.
He was my life, my love, my all and then
The country he loved sent him to fight.
He left me weeping there in my lonely den
Sitting by the firelight waiting, hoping to reunite.
Two men in suits came to my door.
They spoke of valor and courage of heart.
My Love is gone; he is no more.
I fall in anguish pierced through with love’s dart.
Sweet memories surround me through the night.
They give me strength to face the morning light.

Horse Hair and Angel Kisses

Why horse hair and angel kisses?

Well if you know anything about me, you know that I LOVE horses so hence the horse hair. Someday, when I can afford it (if that ever happens) I want to own a ranch somewhere in Montana or Tennessee and have at least a few horses. Some may ask why I love horses so much.  Horses to me represent beauty. Beauty may be in the eyes of the beholder, but horses have inspired artists and poets through the ages. I am awed by the sight of a herd of horses galloping through a field – powerful, independent beasts but stunning to view. Horses are fun. There is no experience quite like galloping over an open field on the back of your best friend who enjoys it just as much as you do. I love to ride, but it’s not the only reason for my passion for horses. Truth is even if I didn’t ride I’d still  I love being around them. Horses relax me and intuitively seem to know what I need. It’s like having a best friend who knows exactly how you feel without you ever having to say a word. They free me from the cares and worries of my life. It’s like what Katie says at the end of the movie Flicka, “When I’m riding Flicka, all I feel…. is free.”

As well as horses, I absolutely LOVE kids too. They are my passion. I loved working in the nursery at my church at home in the Springs and miss it dearly. Today I work in the church nursery at a church close to my college. I am also pursuing a degree in Elementary Education with a concentration in ESL. After that, I have WAY too many dreams. Either I want to join YWAM and get an associate degree in Children’s Ministry or work in an orphanage somewhere in South or Latin America. Basically, I’d be happy working anywhere as long as I could work with kids, especially Hispanic children who hold a special place in my heart. To me kids and horses are a lot a like. They both have that emotional connection with me and can heal the pain. They make me laugh; they make me smile. I’ve had so many experiences with kids between my nursery class and those I’ve met in Guatemala that just touch my heart. I can’t even explain it. So why Angel kisses? because for me, kids (although sometimes problemsome) are angels in my book and their kisses make everything better. I love them so much. They are my biggest passion.
